Minimax - Tunes or hardparts first?Updated 2 years ago
What to install first... Great Question.
This is what our diesel specialists recommend at The Diesel Dudes. Please keep in mind - if you have already purchased, we sent you some instructions via email & you can use the help centre ( the page you are on now) for more information.
Here is the process :
1. Install your Delete Tuner
2. Install your Delete pipe/exhaust
3. Install your EGR Delete Kit.
While our tuners and parts are designed to be simple to install, they require some time and patience to install. We highly recommend doing the install in a location your truck may be left in case you receive a faulty tuner, a technical issue occurs or if you are unable to complete the installation in one sitting.
(i) Installing a full kit may take several hours. This depends on how familiar you are with your truck, the tools you have at your disposal. If you read this install guide and are not fully confident you will be able to install the kit by yourself, we highly recommend hiring a professional shop to install the kit for you. Our team at The Diesel Dudes cannot help with the actual install of the kit, we provide the information to do it on your own or information you may pass on to your install professional.
(ii) Sometimes tuners may have a technical problem. While we can certainly help solve these problems quickly, please be advised our tune technicians may take up to 1 business day to return a technical issue inquiry. If your truck is your daily driver or important for your business operations, avoid installing the kit the day before an important day. Please keep in mind that 9/10 times, installs are straightforward and have no issues. But we want to avoid any stressful situation for you, so these are our recommendations.
1. Install Your Delete Tuner
The first thing you want to install is the delete tuner.
Before you go ahead and do this, we have a step 0 :
First thing you will want to do is unplug the Air Intake Throttle Valve, you can find more information on that here : Air Intake Throttle Valve
After this is complete, the next thing you want to do is ensure your battery is fully charged and you have a GOOD battery charger hooked up to your truck for the installation. This is REQUIRED!!!
Make sure all extra electronics are unplugged for the duration of the installation.
If you have a SOTF ( SHIFT ON THE FLY ) switch and are wanting to install it, you can do this before or after the tunes are installed. We suggest that you install the tuner first, and see if the tunes were installed correctly... THEN install the switch, however, it ultimately does not matter.
After your tunes are installed, you are encouraged to start your truck to see if it worked. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND WITHOUT THE HARD PARTS DELETED!!

If none of these articles help, please submit a support form here : Support Form
2. Install Your Delete Pipe/Exhaust
Now that your tunes are successfully installed, its time for the delete pipe.
- Do not drive your truck without deleting the DPF&CAT/Exhaust
- In our instructions we suggest that you do this right after the tuner.
Depending on if you purchased the DPF&CAT pipe or the exhaust, the process will be very similar.
If you got the DPF&CAT pipe : Click me for more info
If you got the Full exhaust, it is quite straight forward, you simply need to remove the exhaust system
On both the DPF&CAT pipe and the Full Exhaust, you will need to remove all of the sensors related to the emission system.
3. Install Your EGR Delete Kit
Now, the last step is to install the EGR delete kit.
You can gather a lot of good information here : EGR Support
The EGR is an optional item to the delete. It can be done at a later time no problem. The minimum requirements for the EGR delete is that you unplug the EGR sensors. The physical device can be unplugged at a later time.
However, I suggest you visit this page here : EGR support for more information.
Its important to note, if you DID NOT do the delete in this process.. You are OK. Just hear me out, we suggest to follow the steps mentioned above as it leads to a successful install.
If you did pull off the hard parts before the tunes, just make sure you have NO CODES going into the tune installation. You might see some DTC codes relating to your emission system... But if possible, clear them before you load up the tunes!!
